Jesus said to his disciples “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.”  They were confused and asked him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and give you something to drink?” Jesus replied, ”I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did to me.”

It was the pleasure of our Villages couples’ bible study group (Dombrowki, Kludt, Falarski, Fuller, Cullen/Benz) to serve at City Team at their location off of Old Oakland Road.  Arriving at 1:00 PM, we were escorted into the kitchen area to begin our tasks.  It took a bit of time to get over how gorgeous we all looked in a hairnet and sashed into an apron, but the chef and helpers made sure that the work area was clean and orderly.

We were given peelers and knives and embarked on the major job of peeling and slicing 100# of carrots and 200# of potatoes (glad it wasn’t onion day!)  Our hands turned orange from the carrots and we filled more than a few buckets of French fries for the next day’s lunch. Then, on to preparing the other food for the evening meal.  The menu included shepherd’s pie, salad, fruit, bread, vegetables and dessert.  As the resident men and then the guests came in, we served them and both saw and heard their appreciation.

Dinner like this happens every day where City Team serves up to 600 meals.  They are able to do this through generous contributions of food and labor.  We all came away blessed by the experience and delighted to serve some of Jesus’ brothers.
